Hot Stone Massage

What Is Hot Stone Massage?

In Hot Stone Massage, the heated stones are placed on cold areas such as your  feet, and on areas of tension such as
your lower back and along your spine, to warm and relax the
muscles.  Your muscles are far more supple when warm, and can then be massaged more effectively.  The heated stones are used in the massage itself to further relax and to apply focused heat and pressure to your particular areas of tension.   Hot Stone Massage is ideally suited for people suffering from stress, from pain aggravated by the cold and damp, and for those who simply feel the cold and have difficulty getting or staying warm.

What Can Hot Stone Massage Do For You?

As with other types of massage, the primary benefits of Hot Stone Massage are relaxation and pain relief.  If the Scottish
winter is creeping into your bones, making your joints ache and your muscles stiff, then Hot Stone Massage is an excellent treatment.  It is a highly relaxing and unusual form of massage, well suited to dispelling cold and damp, as well as stress.

What Should Be Expected From a Hot Stone Treatment?

The consultation will include the taking of a short history, with  medical and lifestyle information, in  order to personalise your treatment.  The massage will use oils suited to your skin and stones heated to a temperature pleasing to you.  The oils will leave a residue on your skin, so please be aware of this when dressing for a day on which you will be having massage.

When Might Hot Stone Massage Not Be Suitable?

As for other types of massage, if you are in any doubt or under medical supervision, check with your GP before making an appointment. Persons with heart conditions, thrombosis, phlebitis, or oedema are especially urged to check with their doctors.  Additionally, persons with some serious conditions - including cancer - may not receive massage without the express consent of their GPs.

It is not advisable to drink alcohol or use non-prescription drugs in the 24 hours before and after your massage.
